Rome declaration: G20 leaders fail to make specific commitments to limit temperature rises

World leaders meeting at the G20 summit in Rome agreed that countries must take “meaningful and effective actions” to limit global average temperature increase to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels but failed to make any specific commitments to meet that target.

The final G20 leaders’ declaration said that they will accelerate actions to achieving global net zero greenhouse gas emissions or carbon neutrality “by or around mid-century” but did not include a commitment to net zero by 2050.
